Yes they are in next to Shop N Save But that is temporary and nothing permanent they still have not started building their new shop yet and they are considering other places. They are considering a couple of places in Weston. I get my information first hand since I work for Weatherford Wireline Services in Weston. As for the sand silos they are not as bad as everyone says they would be. Just be glad that they are not wanting to put their liquid nitrogen silos in North Buckhannon much more noise not just truck noise but you should here some of those nitrogen pumpers going off while they are loading liquid nitrogen. Just something to think about.Nothing in Buckhannon is permanent Yet. keep that in mind and If they do decide to stay in Buckhannon I would say that those silos will go up. As I have said before everyone is making a fuss about the dust from the sand and if everyone is gonna slam them about that maybe you should check out Universal Well Services and see how their sand is housed and loaded because what keeps the dust from their sand going airborne Universal is only across the 4 lane.
Make no mistake about it, the oil and gas industry could not be run out with an army of loaded tanks! WV is setting on a gold mine of gas and they want it. It is the duty of every citizen of WV to protect our enviroment that we take pride in saying "Wild and Wonderful"!!
You are right Icredneck04, all of the citizens ,except N.Buckhannon, does not believe that this will effect them. Therefore, they are not interested in learning about how this devouroring cancer grows. The silos are just the beginning and then it will be more, like the nitrogen oxide and the acids!! And then, all of these chemicals are deposited into our earth's water supply! Yea, that won't effect them (how delusional)!
If Weatherford chooses to go to Weston, so be it. At least we can say that we did our part to protect the very necessities that sustain life, and that is not money!!!
Direct Decendant
By the way Icredneck04, remember your confidential agreement during and after your employment with Weatherford. Your job could be on the line!!!
Direct Descendant:
You shouldn't talk about things that you know nothing about. I am talking about the "confidentiality agreement" that you are talking about. EVERY gas and oil company has their employees do this.
lcredneck04: You might just as well turn around and talk to a wall, as to try to talk to these people. Their minds are made up, and they are going to run Weatherford out of town.
Just as the "letter to the editor" said in yesterdays paper. If Weatherford decides to go elsewhere, it will seperate families and/or they will have to leave Buckhannon all together.
In case you haven't realized this, the residents of N. Buckhannon first said that their concern was the silos and the dangers. Now, it has turned to the acid and nitrogen getting into the water source. It is a never ending N. Buckhannon saga.
Dios salve gobierno republicano. No hay escapando Justicia.
To Mr. I see, I just research the facts but, I am not at all impressed that the confidential agreement goes straight across the board with the oil and gas industries. Thank you for re-enforcing the point. You are a wonderful example of how one individual's comments becomes an entire community's. Your predjudice remarks ,including your name, is not enhancing your intelligence! I would bet that you are Mr.pgd.....rambling all around the issue.
To the "good" Anonymous that is actually on the side of the People, thank you. No offense at all to "Icredneck04," but he may have bought into Weatherford's propaganda without reading the "fine print." God Bless him for having employment, but I Pray that he will not be used as a pawn or tool for Weatherford's public relations. After all, he himself admitted he gets his information first hand. But, whenever you work for someone, it is imperative these days to always be educated and schooled up on all aspects of the job and to not be so blindly trusting. That is dangerous, not only for an employee but also to society. Most corporations under today's world system are so heavily Socialist that it's difficult to find true Capitalism. And the profits earned do not equal the actual tasks required in the job. The so-called Union system of work is an extremely Socialist system. In fact, it's a prototype or precursor to absolute Communism. It's like the Pyramid system of wages... To the educated, you know exactly what I mean.
Also, some corporations will implant themselves in areas rich in natural resources. Whenever they have exhausted them, they pack up and leave. Then the State is left to clean up their messes. Look at some of the coal mining that takes place in West Virginia that is not West Virginian owned. See how much acid mine drainage or runoff is commonplace in this State. [That's that orange water in streams and creeks]. "Outsider" coal companies will use and abuse our resources for their benefit, then the State Legislature and the taxpaying Citizens they represent are stuck with the cleaning bill at our expense. There are not enough tough industry laws because this State's way of thinking is still trapped in the Great Depression. So much for honoring the past and looking to the future. No wonder we are the second-poorest state in the nation. By the way, our own coal companies are also to blame for that orange water, so don't think I only meant the outsider companies.
Weatherford is more than welcome to add to Buckhannon's economy. But, they must adhere to strict safety measures. Corporations have a public obligation not to be a danger to its environment or to the area in which they conduct business. Some industrial forms of business are a sincere, real danger to people, but sometimes people feel helpless or are not strong-willed to fight back against any threats upon their back doors. But, I trust the Citizens of Buckhannon have become more alert to this growing plight.
And if safety is no longer a concern on Weatherford's part, my previous "Spanish" blog is the answer to all of this increasing annoying Saga.
Also, if the Silica Sand Silos will not be located in North Buckhannon, then "Thank You, God!" But, wherever they end up, we should still have a concern if they end up in one of our fellow neighbors' midst. Let us care for ourselves and others... that's the American thing to do; we look out for each other.
The People need to continue putting enough pressure on their government and this corporation to make certain they are doing the right thing. They probably think they can just wait it out. But, we are not foolish.
"We are right to take alarm at the first experiment upon our liberties."
- James Madison
Keep the pressure on the City government so it never comes to this following quote...
"Where an excess of power prevails, property of no sort is duly respected. No man is safe in his opinions, his person, his faculties, or his possessions."
- James Madison
If Weatherford wants to come to Buckhannon and the City wants to let them in fine.
But let them in down by the water treatment plant in south Buckhannon. If Weatherford goes into south Buckhannon that way all the people of south Buckhannon can deal with the dust and noise and the trucks on Rt. 20 ever day and night. And if there is a spill that goes into the Buckhannon river. That OK Weatherford says it’s safe. The fish won’t mind.
OK you say not there. There is an empty lot up by St. Joe’s Hospital That way all the people of Buckhannon can see the 80 ft Silos. And see all the trucks that come on go. And seeing how the sand and dust is not going to harm anyone then the people and patience at St Joe’s should not care.
It will be so much fun having 80 ton trucks to dodge when you have to take your mother or father to the E.R. And I’m sure your newborn will not mind breathing the sand and dust after all Weatherford say’s it safe.
OK you say not there. Well let’s put the 80-foot silos in next to Wal-Mart. There is a empty lot there too and there is a railroad siding there already. That should make getting into Wal-Mart fun. And as a gift you can get your car sand blasted when the wind blows as you shop. After all Weatherford says the sand is Safe
OK you say not there. Well the city own lots all over the place. I say lets put the 80-foot silos across from the post office in the parking lot that the city owns now. The silos would look so nice painted green with a big Strawberry on them when it’s time for the Strawberry festival. O but we would have to stop all the rides when a truck needs to get to the silos for a fill up. You don’t mind a little sand in your Strawberry short cake do you, adds a nice taste to it and Weatherford says it’s safe.
OK you say not there. Well I still think a downtown right on Main St. would be nice. The city could condemn and tear down a block or two to make room. I think right across from the courthouse would be nice. It would add just the right touch to main St. It would look so much like south Charleston. And just the look the Mayor wants for Buckhannon.
OK you say not there. Well let’s put Weatherford’s 80-foot silos where they belong, out in the industrial park and not in people’s back yards.
I have a question. Where would Weatherford pay taxes on its profits since it comes to the US from Canada?
Weatherfords U.S. location HQ is based out of Houston Texas. They are located in more than 100 countries around the world and have over 730 locations. I hope you don't expect them to pay taxes in the U.S. if they are located in another country. The locations in the U.S. pay U.S. taxes. The locations in S. America pay S. American taxes, the African locations pay African taxes, etc.....
I want to express my support for Weatherford. They are an excellent company and Upshur County deserves a break. Our young folk have no jobs to turn to unless they want to work in a fast food joint or at Wal-Mart.
I did in fact read the letter to the editor in the paper last week and agree whole heartedly with Mr. & Mrs. Perry.
The people of the fine city of Buckhannon elected our officials and all of the people should have a vote about what is happening. Not just those who live in N. Buckhannon. The rest of the city has an opinion also and it needs to be heard.
I know that this is not what everyone wants to hear, but it needs to be said.
I have been reading this blog for several weeks and just can't believe that the good people of this city are not expressing their feelings. I have spoken with many of you that feel as I do and hope that you will write and say how you feel.
If the elected officials are reading this, please know that we are behind you and we support Weatherford. Please, listen to everything before making a decision and think of the good of the city and our present and future workers. Our city and county deserve a company like Weatherford and should be proud they are wanting to locate here and hire our men and women to work for such a fine company.
Thank you for listening and I hope that more people will come out and support Weatherford.
I think there is a City Council this Thursday night that I hope some supporters will attend. You can call City Hall or the Mayor and get a time and location.
